As a child in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Potomac, Maryland, Allison lived the life of your typical upper-middle-class suburban over-achieving-nerdy-but-cool-oldest-child-in-the-family-child.
Growing up, she wavered between two dreams: becoming an attorney like her dad or working as a sports reporter on the NFL beat. She ended up with neither, yet regrets just one (guess which?).
Allison went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in English and fulfilled another long-time dream of living on her own in New York City. She worked as a media planner for one of the world’s top advertising agencies, and then as a marketing and P.R. professional for an international non-profit. Allison then returned to school and earned a graduate degree in Journalism from Columbia University.
Allison also, during that period and in no particular order, got married, gave birth to her first child and gained some valuable experience as a business reporter for an international media company (think: the name of New York City’s current mayor).
In 1998, Allison, her husband and newborn son moved to South Florida in search of sun, palm trees and a piece of the Internet Boom pie. She found all three at first. In 2001, though, Allison was laid off from what she had thought was the best job she would ever have as the managing editor for a newsletter publishing company (that she later found out gave not-so-reliable investing advice to its unsuspecting subscribers).
Allison vowed to never work for anyone else again and launched Get It In Writing, a marketing and copywriting consultancy that has grown to become one of the top small businesses of its kind in the U.S. She’s been a million-ideas-a-minute entrepreneur ever since.
As Founder and President of Get It In Writing, Allison has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, INC Magazine, WomenEntrepreneur.com and The Christian Science Monitor, to name a few. She has also spoken or presented to a number of business organizations and associations, including the American Business Woman’s Association (ABWA) and International Coaches Federation (ICF), on topics related to marketing, entrepreneurship, small business and working moms. Through Get It In Writing, Allison is also the author of a number of books, including Do-It-Yourself Copywriting Guaranteed To Ignite Sales & Explode Your Business: Proven Techniques Most Master Copywriters Don’t Want You to Know.
Allison, who gave birth to both of her 8.5+ pound children on Sundays after working through the very last Friday, has been, well…obsessed, with the issues, feelings, challenges and amazing qualities and accomplishments of working moms since her first child was born. She lives in Boca Raton, Florida, is a speed reader, wanna-be runner, big-time Type A and sometime-people person.
