Finding the balance with Alicia Anderson
Is there really a work/life balance for women?
Is there truly any such thing as work-life balance or is it another Walt Disney fairytale?
I mean, for women.
And not just for the Mary Kay and Arbonne resellers (no offense – I buy from them).
And not just for the single or childless.
Does it exist, for real, in corporate America for moms – in demanding roles? Most women I know would settle for work-work balance – they don’t have a ‘life’. Their career is work and their personal life is work. The whole concept of having a ‘life’ is a dream for them! When people coined the term work-life balance, I’m sure they assumed the existence of a ‘life’ that was FUN, REJEUVANTING, EXHILERATINGand ENJOYABLE.
So, what happened to the ‘life’ in work-life balance, for female high-achievers?
As you can see, achieving work-life balance is not a simple process. Those seeking work-life balance really have two challenges:
1) How do I get a life? (and keep it), and
2) How to I balance my new-found life with my work?
In other words, how do I first transform those non-working hours each day into LIVING? How do I make my family time meaningful and my meal time rich and nourishing and my quiet time inspiring and my romantic time satisfying? How do I experience joy and love and peace again? How do I connect with the people and things I used to enjoy so much? THEN, how do I find balance – how do I keep it all in perspective and all in the right proportions. How can I possibly have it all?
Well, this is EXACTLY what I will address in this WorkingMomLifeline.com column. I read about it, I talk about it, I study it, I eat it, I breathe it, I listen to others who are wrestling with it - I live this topic. And I love this topic and the women who care about it.
Let’s take this journey together.
Stay tuned.
