Kick-Start Your On-Ramp Journey at YourOnRamp.com

Welcome back to the On-Ramp! Last time, I shared some inspiration I came across in a blog post on www.YourOnRamp.com. This time, we’re diving in a little deeper, to evaluate this web resource for On-Rampers.

YourOnRamp.com offers helpful information for women in career transition – whether from SAHM status or just another field of work. The site provides “networking, career resources and job opportunities,” all designed with the On-Ramper in mind.

One of the strongest features of the site is the up-to-date Job Board. While most of the listed positions are in California (where the site’s founders live), there is a broad array of current, professional-level job opportunities, such as: part-time project manager, lead tax services senior consultant, job-sharing online ad sales, VP of sales, social media consultant and business development manager. With 21 new jobs listed just since the first of the year, you might want to check it out.

Under the “Career” menu header, I found some excellent career coaching resources – scores of informative articles, plus access to several professional career coaches who specialize in assisting On-Rampers (you have to contact them for their fee schedules). Examples of some good, advice-laden articles include:

"Seven Tips for a Better Resume"
"No Apologies Necessary"
"Informational Interviews: The Secret to Forwarding Your Career"
"Figuring Out My Career Passion"

I also really like the Library (under Reading Room menu), which is more than a recommended reading list. It’s categorized by subjects that are important to us – like Career, On-Ramp, Entrepreneur, Just for Moms – and includes links to purchase the books on Amazon. The On-Ramp Library has some great titles (that just may inspire a book review or two here!), such as:

The Comeback: Seven Stories of Women Who Went from Career to Family and Back Again, by Emma Gilbey Keller
Off-ramps and On-ramps: Keeping Talented Women on the Road to Success, by Sylvia Ann Hewlett
If You've Raised Kids, You Can Manage Anything: Leadership Begins At Home, by Ann Crittendon

To sum up, YourOnRamp.com is a valuable resource – despite the fact that some areas of the site (such as the many blogs) haven’t seen much recent activity. My recommendation – just as with anything in life – is to take advantage of the many learning opportunities it offers. The people behind this site are extremely experienced, well-educated and have done their research. It’s a solid source of assistance for any On-Ramper.

Next time, I’ll share some of the fascinating details of my interview with one of the co-founders of YourOnRamp.com – Catherine Clifford!
