Single Over the Holidays

The gifts are wrapped, Santa is on his way…and yet you feel somewhat alone on Christmas Day.

Holidays are often mixed with a variety of emotions. Often, they bring extreme moments of bliss when receiving time off from work and seeing our family and friends. Despite this, singles often have moments of sorrow when they feel they don’t have a significant other to share in this special time.

It’s only normal to desire someone to share in the season, but don’t let it ruin your holiday enjoyment. Here are ways to better cope and fully enjoy the holidays with cheer.

*Evaluate your life and what’s really important. Concentrate of being thankful for all the wonderful people in your life and not what you feel is missing. Think of your family and your wonderful children, and celebrate that you’ve made it another year successfully.

*Celebrate and rejoice in the milestones, even if they are small ones. Congratulate and appreciate yourself for all that you have and will do.

*Put it all in perspective. Keep in mind the holidays are just a few days. Remember a Valentine’s Day that you spent alone? Perhaps for that day you felt envious of others, but by February 15th you were past it. Enjoy the few days you have with your family and friends and don’t make yourself feel bad dwelling in sorrow or envy of couples.

*Get out and do something fun with your kids. Build a snowman, have a snow ball fight, read stories drinking cocoa or play board games with your children. This special time is centered around family so have some fun with them.

*Do something special for you! If you don’t have a significant other to buy for you this year go get something for yourself. Treat yourself to a massage or those pair of shoes you so wanted. Who knows how to better buy for you….than you?
